Scorpion Dominate Snetterton
Scorpion Sponsored drivers have dominated the BTCC in this weekends, Snetterton round; at the new 300 circuit.
Plato, Shedden and Jackson each won one of the 3 races and Jackson left the circuit as the new championship leader. Matt Neal had a weekend he would much rather forget. A puncture and a shunt off track meant he would only take points in race 3, where he managed a fourth place finish.
The first race of the day saw Shedden taking a 3rd place spot and a spirited drive from Mat Jackson saw him finish 6th from a qualifying position of 13th. Jackson's team mate, Liam Griffin also managed to make up some good ground and finish in 17th from a 22nd place start. A shunt from Plato in the first corner saw Matt Neal spin off track, from which he never fully regained his form and finished out of the points. Dave Newsham of Special Tuning took a valuable single point finishing in 10th. Despite Boardman putting in an absolutely blistering performance and making up 16 places in 3 laps points were not to be his, engine gremlins put paid to his race on lap 5.
Race 2 saw Jackson leap immediately into 4th place unfortunately he wasnt to finish there, after a lot of jostling and paint swapping he found himself finishing in 6th. Liam Griffin continued to show his developing talent, finishing up in a solid 14th place. Honda' Gordon Shedden won the second race to put him temporarily at the top of the championship leaderboard, whereas fellow Honda driver Matt Neal suffered with a puncture and didnt finish the race. The news wasnt good in the Special Tuning pit garage, Tom Boardman's engine gremlins from race 1 had turned into a terminal problem meaning he had to watch the rest of the day from the pit wall. Dave Newsham however in the other Seat Leon leapt from 10th to 6th on the first lap. Tussling with Matt Neal and Paul O'Neil for the rest of the race saw Dave finish in a worthy 7th place.
The third and final race saw Jackson starting in 2nd place behind Dave Newsham, where he didnt stay for long easily finding the pace to take the top spot, which is where he stayed for the remainder of the race; relatively untrouble. The final race was Matt Neal's only high point of the day, he managed to put his car in 4th place by the end of the race with Shedden only able to manage 7th after sustaining some damage. With Dave Newsham being the only Special Tuning car left, the pressure was on. He started from pole but was passed quickly by Jackson and despite battling bravely throughout the race a couple of mistakes saw him slip back to an 8th place finish.
The exciting Snetterton round now sees the top 3 places in BTCC drivers championship filled with Scorpion sponsored drivers:
